Traditional Thai Massage

WHAT IS THAI MASSAGE?

Thai massage, also known as Thai Yoga massage, is a traditional form of bodywork developed in Thailand with Indian and Chinese influences. Originally practised by Buddhist monks and folk healers, Thai massage has developed in to a modern holistic therapy consisting of acupressure, rhythmic massage, joint manipulation and applied yoga stretches. Treatments are done fully clothed on a comfortable futon mat, with the therapist using their thumbs, hands, elbows, knees and feet to slowly release tension held in the body. In Thailand, traditional massage is often described as "lazy persons yoga". All the client has to do is relax and allow the practitioner to massage and stretch.

WHAT CAN IT HELP?

Thai massage can help to alleviate many common ailments: back and neck pain, frozen shoulders, sciatica, bowel troubles, repetitive strain injuries, stress-related disorders, headaches, irregular periods, sports injuries, sinusitis, and arthritis. It also helps to boost immunity, correct poor posture, improve flexibility, increase energy levels, stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage, and enhance sports and stage performance. The beauty of Thai massage is that it is easily modified to the needs of the client, whether for deep relaxation or working with a specific ailment.

WHAT DOES A SESSION INVOLVE?

For Thai massage you must wear loose comfortable clothing as you are fully clothed during treatment, it is a good idea to wear tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. Thai massage traditionally can be practised on a client up to 2½ hours to balance as many muscles groups as possible.
