Person-Centred Counselling and Therapy

These days it is easy to lose contact with our fundamental identity as creative and empowered human beings. In a world of 'doing' there can seem to be little opportunity for 'being' as the demands of everyday life become increasingly complicated, impersonal and time-stressed.

A person's behaviour is not who they are, though it can be seen as a symptom of where they are. If we are feeling threatened, disempowered, inadequate or stuck, it can be difficult to know which way to turn and we may experience being untrusting, lost, impatient or desperate as a result.

THE PERSON-CENTRED APPROACH is not about 'doing to' or 'doing for' the client- it is about 'being with' them in the here-and-now of their reality. A person may be experiencing specific difficulties in adapting to change, be carrying some inner 'burden' and feel unable or unwilling to let it go, or are simply wanting  to find a way to be more fully who they truly are. Through the process of counselling and therapy people often discover new perspectives on old difficulties, find hidden resources within themselves that equip them for meeting the challenges of their current life, or are able to manifest dreams of a different way of being in the world.

THE PERSON-CENTRED MODEL of counselling and psychotherapy is non-directive, is neither invasive nor manipulative and is concerned with removing obstacles to human development and facilitating the client in re-connecting with their natural capacity for living as a whole person.

PERSON-CENTRED THERAPY offers the opportunity for transformation and healing by facilitating the relationship with our authentic identity.

To be seen, heard, valued and accepted - without judgement - for who we truly are is a fundamental, human need. Many have not experienced being received in this way since early childhood, while many have never experienced it.

Therapy sessions last 55minutes and take place on a weekly basis. All sessions are confidential and the first one is free. My fee is £30 and I am able to offer a few clients a reduced fee in cases of extreme financial hardship. I request at least 24 hours notice if an appointment is to be cancelled, otherwise I will require the agreed payment. As a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy I abide by its Code of Ethics and attend regular supervision.
