| Physiotherapy |
Physiotherapy is a highly advanced, research based discipline. It combines detailed knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to diagnose and treat a broad range of complaints caused by illness, accident or aging.
As a physiotherapist we are able to identify and maximise movement potential through health promotion, preventative health care, treatment and rehabilitation.
We use hands on techniques such as stretching, strengthening, education, and modalities like heat and ultrasound to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being.

What to Expect in a Physiotherapy Assessment?
The physiotherapist begins an assessment with a series of questions based around the presenting condition. This could include questions regarding the onset and severity of symptoms and the possible causes of the condition. In addition, a screening of past medical history relevant to this condition is conducted before the physical examination takes place.
During the physical assessment, observation of posture, movement and any abnormalities is carried out along with assessment of possible structures involved.
The related joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves within the affected area are also tested before an overall diagnosis of the problem can be made. Based on the initial asessment, a plan of treatment is commenced and the patient is educated with regards to his or her condition. Throughout the patient's treatment, an ongoing re-assessment of symptoms and movement will be made.

| Medical Acupuncture |
Acupuncture is a branch of traditional Chinese Medicine that originated over 2000 years ago. It is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. It involves inserting very thin, metallic needles into specific parts of the body for therapeutic and health promoting effects.

How does acupuncture work?
The modern scientific explanation is that needling acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release the production of endorphins, the bodies natural pain killers and is particularly useful in the treatment of headaches, whiplash, arthritis and back pain. It influences 3 areas of healthcare:
1) Promotion of health and well-being
2) Prevention of illness
3) Treatment of various medical conditions

What to expect
"When a needle is inserted, the sensation is often described as a tingling or a dull ache. Needles may be inserted and immediately removed, or may be left in place for 20 minutes or more, depending on the effect required. During treatment, patients commonly experience heaviness in the limbs or a pleasant feeling of relaxation. The benefits of acupuncture frequently include more than just relief from a particular condition. Many people find that it can also lead to increased energy levels, as well as better appetite and sleep, and an enhanced sense of overall wellbeing" (British acupuncture council).
